A dual system and three steps of personnel development - training at KiKxxl 2.0

Good, tailor-made training is the basis for the quality of employees, specialists and managers. But when they hear the word “training,” many people think of long hours with boring topics and a trainer in monologue mode in a stuffy training room.

But what does training look like nowadays? And what is possible at all in times of Corona with distance, mask & Co.

At KiKxxl, the topic has been approached “differently” as usual: large learning groups are passé, and not just since the pandemic with its restrictions. Instead, we rely on small groups in which learning is much more intensive and targeted. Practical relevance is the be-all and end-all: all theoretical and technical topics are examined for their applicability in everyday working life. Small groups are accompanied by small units: day-long training sessions are also out of fashion and are replaced by condensed units. Who can remember every detail from a bouquet of topics that is becoming more and more colorful out of trainer fear of not covering something? Instead, KiKxxl trainers prefer to talk about “learning impulses”, i.e. manageable topics that encourage reflection and trial and error in practice. It is not always and exclusively the trainer who lectures, explains, and presents. Rather, a dual system of classroom and digital learning has become established. The technical term for this is “blended learning,” i.e., the sensible and planned interplay of several methods and formats that bring variety, make learning fun, and allow learners to learn at their own pace. The spectrum ranges from brainteasers to impulse videos and knowledge quizzes.

KiKxxl has developed the KiKxxl Academy, a tool that contains many digital learning modules that can be delivered to learners.

In KiKxxl practice, it looks like this: Learners are given access authorization by the trainer to suitable course modules to be worked on in a given period of time. The workload is feasible; learners decide for themselves when to click on the digital courses. The web-based access also makes it possible to work on the course outside of working hours and from any digital device. So everything in business-optimized self-study with learners left alone in front of the lonely PC monitor? Anyone who fears that the digital trend will mean that the human-direct learning variant will fall by the wayside altogether is wrong. A cornerstone of the training department at KiKxxl is the conviction of the so-called “inverted classroom”, in which important content, models, theories are taught by the KiKxxl Academy in “self-study” and these are then deepened, applied, and knocked off in classroom modules in small groups. This saves time in the face-to-face sessions, as the participants come to the training room with the same level of knowledge acquired in advance via the virtual modules. In a third step, the trainers then also take on board the individual development needs of the participants and follow up on their needs by providing individual support where necessary. With a best practice approach, the trainers also take on a different role: they are no longer mediators of the material with a tendency towards omniscience and monologue, but rather learning companions, impulse providers and learning moderators and bring learners together for targeted exchange: in other words, learning with and from each other!

At the same time, the trainers draw on their experience from the three steps and continually adapt the modules in the KiKxxl Academy to meet demand: topics such as “Leading Different Generations” or “Communicating Negative News” thus move into the virtual bookcase.
